The GS1 system of standards is the most widely used supply chain standards system in the world.

GS1's main activity is the development of the GS1 System, a series of standards designed to improve supply chain management.

There are 108 GS1 Member Organizations in the whole world. In Poland GS1 has represented by the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing - GS1 Poland since 1990. The main responsibilities of GS1 Poland are:

• The allocation of unique numbers - the basis for the complete range of standards
• Providing training and support for:

  	BarCodes: Numbering and bar coding
  	eCom - EDI (Electronic Data Interchange)
  	Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN) - data synchronisation
  	EPCglobal - RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)
